To provide a world class Archives and documentation centre in the federal capital territory that will meet real time and on-line information and record needs for members of the public using world best practices

Our Mission

To collect, collate, conserve, preserve and manage all archived records of the Federal Capital Territory that are responsive to real time information needs of planners, city managers, research scholars, policy makers etc.


Our Mandate

  • Establish and sustain an easy-to-access computerizes records management system for non-current records of the FCT in line with Article 5 of the National Archives Decree (1992)
  • Maintenance of archives of all non-current records of FCT
  • Create and maintain a database of all information relevant to, and necessary for the effective development and governance of the FCT, (including demographic, economic, social and comparative data on other cities)
  • Use this records and data base to make well-informed, timely and regular inputs into the policy formation, decision making and policy implementation by the FCT
  • Use these records and other historically sourced materials to reconstruct and document the history of FCT, and make these records and sources available for research and other forms of inquiries by academicians, the media, political class, researchers and the general public

The Director of FCT Archives

A new dawn at Archives and History Bureau as the staffs welcomes a new director in respect to Mr Peter Chukwuka.

During the handing over ceremony, the outgoing Director Mallam Muhammad Bashir expressed appreciation at the calibre of staff in Archives and History Bureau describing them as competent, cooperative and hardworking.

The new Director AHB expressed delight at the testimony of Mallam Bashir about the staff and urged them to come together and work as a family. He further stated that he is a team player who likes to work with people in order to achieve the desired goal. And urged staff to remain loyal to the constituted authorities and abide by the public services rules.


“We should drive the Change Agenda”

Staff of the FCT Archives have been urged to help in driving the Change Agenda of the present administration to a success by putting more efforts and quality inputs to the service as the Bureau made adequate provision for capacity building of the staff.

The call was made by the New Acting Director of the Bureau Alhaji Ishaq A. Sadeeq at the Bureau’s staff general meeting that was held recently at the office complex.

Alhaji Ishaq A. Sadeeq averred that as the propelling force of the government, staff should avail themselves with the directive principles of this government, by effecting change in their attitude to work and service delivery, so as to make the government service more efficient and productive.

The Director, Archive and History Bureau Ms. Cerie Jogai bows out of service after attaining the mandatory age of 60yrs. She handed the mantle of leadership to Alhaji Ishaq A. Sadeeq, Director Admin & Finance of the Bureau. The Director has since held meetings with both Management and staff of the bureau on the way forward.
